| Biography: | |
| Brian retired from academia in Ontario (veterinary medicine and agriculture) in 2001 and relocated, with his wife Cathy, to Comox B.C., on beautiful Vancouver Island. He now paints full time - in acrylic and oil. His interests are figurative and landscape - particularly the challenge of painting scenes on-location (plein air). Brian`s paintings are reflective of his own interests –hiking, kayaking, skiing, traveling, agriculture and rural communities. He admires the many great Canadian landscape painters past and present. His goal is to interpret, to the best of his ability, the magnificence of Canada through his own use of colour and composition. Brian has won awards for both his studio and plein air paintings - including four Best in Show and nine Awards of Excellence at Federation of Canadian Artists Juried shows, a second place at the Federation’s Gallery in Vancouver and first place at the Grand Prix d’ Art competition at the Old School House Arts Centre, Qualicum Beach in 2007 and again in 2008. Brian was honoured to be recently awarded (March 2010) Signature Status (AFCA) by the Federation of Canadian Artists. He continues to study with accomplished artists in Canada and the USA. His paintings have sold locally, accross Canada and the USA and recently into Europe. Brian is represented by: •Qualicum Frameworks Gallery, Qualicum Beach (www.qualicumframeworks.ca). •Magnolia Gallery, Cumberland (www.magnoliagallery.ca) •The Gallery at Active Life, Collingwood, Ontario. •Paintings may be viewed by appointment at his Home Gallery in Comox (bbuckell@shaw.ca (250)890-0404). •Pieces of Brian’s work can be seen at the Cottage Gardener and other locations on Comox Ave. in Comox, at Impressions Gallery in Campbell River and the Sandbar Gallery in Qualicum Bay.
This summer Brian’s paintings can be seen at his Annual Garage Sale (July 31 - Aug 2) at his home on Beaufort Ave. in Comox, at Originals Only Art Show and Sale in Marina Park Comox ( Aug 7 and 8), at the Englishman River Gallery, Qualicum Beach (August 14&15) and at the Old School House Gallery, Qualicum Beach (August 16 to September 11). This fall, November 6 and 7, Brian will display at the Islands Arts Expo in Parksville where he will also be making a two hour presentation on his approach to learning to paint. |

| Brian has recently published a book called A GOOD START - MY LEARNING TO PAINT which includes many of his paintings and his thoughts on learning to paint.
